What is the difference between balayage and highlights?
Highlights use foils to lift sections of hair uniformly from root to tip, creating a brighter, more structured look. Balayage is a freehand painting technique applied to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair, creating a softer, more natural grow-out with less contrast at the root. Balayage requires less frequent maintenance. Highlights give more dramatic brightness. Both can be customized to your tone, texture, and lifestyle at Monika Coiffure Spa Studio.
How long does balayage last?
Balayage typically lasts 3 to 4 months before a refresh is needed, depending on your hair growth rate and how much contrast you want to maintain. Because it grows out naturally without a hard root line, many clients go longer between appointments than they would with traditional highlights.
Can I get balayage on dark hair?
Yes. Balayage works on all hair colors including dark brown and black hair. The process may require multiple sessions to reach lighter tones without compromising hair integrity. What is face frame balayage?
Face frame balayage focuses the lightening around the front sections of your hair that frame your face. It is a lower commitment, lower cost option that adds brightness and dimension without touching the rest of your hair. Starting from $120 at Monika Coiffure Spa Studio.

Keratin Treatments
What is a keratin treatment and how does it work?
Keratin treatments infuse the hair shaft with keratin protein to smooth the cuticle, eliminate frizz, and improve manageability. The treatment is sealed into the hair using heat. Results last anywhere from 8 to 20 weeks depending on the formula, your hair type, and aftercare. At Monika Coiffure we offer KCMAX, NKST, NKSTB, PBO, KCSMOOTH, EBO, and KCTEXTURE — each designed for different hair types and goals.
Is keratin treatment safe for color-treated hair?
Yes. Most keratin treatments are safe for color-treated hair. The EBO Color-Locking Treatment is specifically designed to be applied after color to seal and extend the life of your color while smoothing the hair. We always assess your hair's condition before recommending a keratin system.
How long do keratin treatments last?
Most keratin treatments last between 8 and 16 weeks. The EBO Express lasts up to 6 weeks. KCMAX and NKST last up to 5 months with proper aftercare. Using sulfate-free shampoo and avoiding chlorine significantly extends your results.
What is the difference between Brazilian Blowout and keratin treatment?
Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing treatment that coats the outside of the hair cuticle to reduce frizz and add shine — results last up to 12 weeks. Keratin Complex treatments penetrate deeper into the hair shaft for longer lasting structural smoothing. Brazilian Blowout is faster (60 to 80 minutes). Both are available at Monika Coiffure Spa Studio in Port Washington.

How often should I get a root touch up?
Most clients book a root touch up every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how fast their hair grows and how much contrast they prefer. Ammonia-free options are available for clients with sensitive scalps. Starting from $85 at Monika Coiffure.
What is a glaze and do I need one?
A glaze is a semi-permanent toner applied after color or lightening services to enhance shine, neutralize unwanted tones, and seal the cuticle. It is not always required but significantly improves the finish and longevity of color results. Available as an add-on from $55 at Monika Coiffure.
What is double process color?
Double process color involves two separate chemical steps — typically a bleach or lightener followed by a toner or color application. It is used for dramatic color changes such as going platinum blonde or achieving high contrast results. It requires more time, care, and expertise than single process color. Haircuts & Styling
Do haircuts at Monika Coiffure include a blowout?
Yes. Women's haircuts at Monika Coiffure Spa Studio include a blowout. A women's haircut starts from $80 and a Master Stylist cut with Monika starts from $100. Curling iron or flat iron finishing is available for an additional $10.
How do I maintain my blowout at home?
Use a boar bristle brush and a medium heat setting on your dryer. Apply a light heat protectant before blow drying. Sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce frizz overnight. Dry shampoo between washes extends the blowout significantly. Avoid touching your hair while it is still warm after styling.

How much do hair extensions cost at Monika Coiffure?
Full extensions at Monika Coiffure start from $1,300. Clip-in full color extensions start from $300. An extensions blowout is available from $45. All extension services begin with a consultation to match your hair type, color, density, and lifestyle goals.
